One more event has been added to our list of upcoming events. Our Backyard is back again this year, being held just one day after Peninsula Crew Challenge and Montanasa.

We’ve added the details for Dancekool, The Game II, Raw Sounds and Our Backyard so far.

More updates on all the other events will be rolling out as well as major changes to the site!

Two of the upcoming events which had not announced their dates have finally set them. Unfortunately, it’s bad news for those of us that wanted to attend all the competitions. Dancekool will be on July 22, the same day as Raw Sounds. Peninsula Crew Challenge will be on September 15, the same day as Montanasa.

Dancekool is a battles-based all styles hip hop competition that has had a long tradition as the major competition in Sydney. 2007 is the first time Dancekool is coming to Melbourne so it will be a delight to see what the scene here has been lacking for years (namely official funkstyles battles).

Raw Sounds is a singing and dancing competition organised by the same people that brought us the Raw and Raw War series.

Montanasa is another hip hop battles based competition. Peninsula is a hip hop showcases competition. Groove 2nd heats are a week after, and it’s Grand-Final week the week after that. The dreaded exam period follows after the grand final week, by which time it would be questionable to run an event.
At the moment it looks like the event organisers won’t be able to change the dates, so it will be up to the dancers and supporters to decide which event they will be going to.

Groovedance can say that the organisers never had any intention for the event dates to clash, and it was simply a coincidence that the only dates the events could be run on were on the same days.

The schedule for major upcoming events now looks like this:

July 14 – The Game Part 2 (Krump Competition)
July 22 – Dancekool
July 22 – Raw Sounds (Sing/Dance Competition)
August 04 – Aus Bboy Championships (National Finals)
September 15 – Peninsula Crew Challenge (Hip Hop Showcase Dance Competition)
September 15 – Montanasa (Hip Hop Battles)
September ?? – Raw War (Hip Hop Battles)
September 22 – Groove Melbourne H2 (Hip Hop Showcase Competition)

Ever since news came out last month that the Australian Bboy Champs were happening, this has been the most anticipated event for all the bboys all around the country. The Victorian Qualifiers is just around the corner on June 30 and most bboys are already in the lab training up for the event.

Wanted will also host a hip hop showcase competition and are currently looking for more crews to enter.

Random News
* The Synthetic Collective Workshops are occurring June 16 and 17 (see the post below for more info).
* Rewind’s new blog is active now at: http://www.rewinddance.blogspot.com keep updated with their journey to Hip Hop International with interviews, videos, and articles being posted up regularly!
* Dance2XS Australia is no longer active until further notice from Patrick Chen (International Dance2XS Director) following the resignation of JD as the director of the Australian branch.
* Groovedance.com will be undergoing major restructuring and redesign starting late June so please bear with us (when the time comes) as we roll over our archives into a new system.

And that’s the news so far… NINE dance competitions in next three months, not including all the special workshops and one-off special events that are sure to come our way. The dance scene sure is busy this year!

The next competition is “WANTED”. The organisers are looking for more hip hop crews to perform. There’s $500 in prize money up for grabs, and the event also doubles as the Victorian qualifier for the Aus Bboy Champs so it’ll be a great day.
