So You Think You Can Dance ‘Boycotted’

December 11th, 2007 by Drumstick in Uncategorized

For any of the dancers that have read the news about the contract for SYTYCD contestants (Adelaide Now, Daily Telegraph), or anyone that has received the email going around about the show, I just wanted to clear up any rumours or misconceptions the media is trying to play.

The contract does not ban membership of any unions, but it does provide a clause that any services supplied by the contestant are independant of union membership. The contract does allow contestants to continue working before and after the show. The clause implying this is concerned about television and media appearances on other networks. This was very clearly explained to all contestants in Sydney, and is enforced to protect the integrity and publicity of the dancers. This is a completely normal clause and applies to all television personalities in the industry.

Any offending provisions in the contract would be read down or severed, but otherwise the contract is definitely not illegal as it has been purported to be. Dancers shouldn’t be put off by what has been said in the media about this. The experience that SYTYCD offers is priceless and life-changing so keep training for it!

Congratulations to the Top 20 for So You Think You Can Dance

December 7th, 2007 by Drumstick in Uncategorized

The last few people to join the top 20 for So You Think You Can Dance in Australia is still being announced but in about 3 hours time the top 20 will be complete.

Groovedance would like to congratulate everyone that made the top 100 in Sydney, and everyone that survived all the grueling days to make it all the way to the top 39 yesterday.

Out of respect for the competition, we won’t be announcing any names of the top 20 or who made it how far in the top 100 week so you’ll have to wait until the show airs in February or find out from somewhere else :).

We can say however, that the people that have been chosen for the top 20 so far are absolutely AMAZING and WORLD CLASS, and So You Think You Can Dance will be the television event to look forward to next year.

We may be posting a separate blog entry of the experience in Sydney (with NO spoilers) so stay tuned! Congratulations again!
