That’s right folks, the one and only SUGA POP is coming to Melbourne!

Unitd Styles is proud and honoured to give you all the opportunity to learn from one of the original pioneers of popping and electric boogaloo. This is an opportunity not to be missed!

Suga Pop will be teaching a total of four workshops: two for popping and two for locking that will take place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of September 2008.

Please note that places are EXTREMELY LIMITED and if you want to do one or a few of the classes you need to register as soon as possible to ensure yourself a place in the class/es of your choice.

Kstar Junior has qualified for the world finals in 3rd place behind two Japanese crews. Beatphonik didn’t qualify for the finals unfortunately.

Street Side Dance Competition

On Wednesday 17th September, Northland secondary College will be hosting the 4th Annual ‘Streetside’ Northern Schools Hip Hop Dance Competition. This will bring together 8 schools in the district all vying for the crown of the “freshest dance crew’ and competing for very generous cash prizes and perpetual trophy.

Along side this will be performances from professional dance crews including B.C Fam (leading Australian Krump company), Rewind (Australian’s representation at the World Hip Hop Championships) and Nomadic Funk (Melbourne’s own Popping & Locking crew). DJ’s will also be spinning the latest beats for the new Freestyle dance 2 on 2 battle!

The college prides itself on the direct links it has with industry and will be calling upon renowned dance professionals to provide the judging on the day. The school currently has a strong, growing dance department that is an integral part of the specialist Performing Arts programs. Many of the teachers are professional artists, including dancers and music producers touring nationally and internationally.

The school has now become the largest provider of Vocational Education and Training dance courses in Victoria, students can undertake a whole performance program offering TAFE certificates including; Certificate II in Dance & Certificate IV in Dance (Teaching & Management). Northland is also the first high school to offer a full-time dance program with 2 fully equipped dance studios and new Macintosh music facilities. ‘Streetside ‘will also feature a 3 on 3 basketball comp, street art, stalls and a special appearance by the Red Bull Wiings Team, giving all participants free Red Bull to get them through the huge day!

Beatphonik and Kstar at the World Hip Hop Championships

Groovedance wishes the best of luck to Beatphonik, Kstar Varsity and Kstar Junior in their endeavours at the World Hip Hop Championships on August 1st and 3rd.

They leave for Las Vegas tomorrow, and will be representing Australia against the best of the best dance crews in the world.

Unleash Dance and Performance Studios

A new dance school by the name of Unleash Dance and Performance Studios will be having their launch THIS SATURDAY from 3-5pm. Visit the studio for a free sample of the classes they’ll have on offer.

They’ll be teaching the street styles of hip hop, popping, locking, house, krump and bboying on Fridays (5-9pm) and Saturdays (3-5pm).

Unleash is located at 284 Thompsons Rd, Lower Templestowe at the Ted Ajani and Bulleen-Templestowe Community Centre.
