On Wednesday 17th September, Northland secondary College will be hosting the 4th Annual ‘Streetside’ Northern Schools Hip Hop Dance Competition. This will bring together 8 schools in the district all vying for the crown of the “freshest dance crew’ and competing for very generous cash prizes and perpetual trophy.

Along side this will be performances from professional dance crews including B.C Fam (leading Australian Krump company), Rewind (Australian’s representation at the World Hip Hop Championships) and Nomadic Funk (Melbourne’s own Popping & Locking crew). DJ’s will also be spinning the latest beats for the new Freestyle dance 2 on 2 battle!

The college prides itself on the direct links it has with industry and will be calling upon renowned dance professionals to provide the judging on the day. The school currently has a strong, growing dance department that is an integral part of the specialist Performing Arts programs. Many of the teachers are professional artists, including dancers and music producers touring nationally and internationally.

The school has now become the largest provider of Vocational Education and Training dance courses in Victoria, students can undertake a whole performance program offering TAFE certificates including; Certificate II in Dance & Certificate IV in Dance (Teaching & Management). Northland is also the first high school to offer a full-time dance program with 2 fully equipped dance studios and new Macintosh music facilities. ‘Streetside ‘will also feature a 3 on 3 basketball comp, street art, stalls and a special appearance by the Red Bull Wiings Team, giving all participants free Red Bull to get them through the huge day!
